E' sempre più difficile trovare luoghi dove si possa vivere il Lago di Como e le sue montagne evitando code, rumori ed affollamento.||||Ho trovato uno dei pochi posti rimasti: Gittana...||Un ambiente al di fuori del tempo, tranquillissimo e caratteristico; passeggiando nel sentiero si raggiunge direttamente uno scorcio di lago in pochissimi minuti...||||Alessandra (la proprietaria) ha una passione coinvolgente per il luogo ed è sempre disponibile a consigliare gli itinerari migliori. L'appartamento è perfetto...comodo ed allo stesso tempo ben integrato nel contesto.||||Ho scritto questa recensione sperando che altri possano provare quello che ho provato io nella mia settimana di vacanza; allo stesso tempo spero che la leggano in pochi, affinchè Gittana possa restare per sempre il posto tranquillo e paradisiaco che è ora.

Una splendida dimora all'interno di un paese "incantato ",....sembra l'inizio di una favola ....e invece è quello che ci capita arrivando a Gittana !!! ...l'imponenza delle montagne ,la dolcezza dei sentieri , e tutta la grazia del lago di Como ....ottimo per staccare la spina e godere di una natura incontaminata....e ultimo ma non per importanza l'ospitalita e la cura di ogni particolare da parte di Alessandra (Danda ) !!!! .....luogo magico !! ....grazie Ale !!

Purtroppo non ho tempo per fare vacanze ma la necessità di staccare la spina per almeno 36 ore mi ha portato in questo angolo di paradiso a pochi passi da lago e dai monti!! Il bello è proprio qui, lassibilità di rifuguarsi lontano dal mondo in un luogo incantato ad un passo dal mondo.. Per me è stato un vero brevissomo toccasana. Grazie Alessandra

Be' se volte soggionare sul Lago di Como e amate la tranquillità Holidays in Gittana fa per voi.||Gittana è una piccola frazione del centro Lago di Como sulla sponda orientale a meno di 10 minuti da Varenna.Situata nella Valle Masna la rende uno dei luoghi più belli del lago.||Inoltre potrete usufruire della splendinda padrona di casa Alessandra che sarà a vostra disposizione per darvi consigli sugli itinerari del lago!

If you're looking for a quiet hideaway in Italy especially suited for a longer stay of a week or more the apartments offered by "Holidays in Gittana" are exactly what you want. Our (only!) two nights in Gittana was the highlight of our 17-day tour around Italy. ||||Gittana is a very small village 15-minutes above the small city of Varenna, the nicest part of Lake Como that we have seen. From Varenna you can reach Bellagio in 20 minutes by frequent and inexpensive ferry (which is great for high-end shopping and as an excursion, but frankly my interest in tourist destinations like Bellagio has waned a bit over the years, as I much prefer to stay overnight in places off the beaten path). ||||We stayed in the very large "Ca Pina" apartment (see my photos) and wish we had budgeted more time than just two nights. The apartment includes a full kitchen, actually larger than what we have at home! We also toured some of the other apartments including one or more that would be absolutely perfect for a family with small children.||||The owner Alessandro has lived in Boston and San Francisco and speaks fluent English, and is a most gracious and welcoming host. ||||The drive from Varenna to Gittana can be a little intimidating at first, just trust your GPS and don't attempt to reach the village in the dark. We managed to find Gittana by car but I imagine you could easily reach Varenna by train or boat and take a taxi up the hill or arrange with Alessandro for a lift.||||There is one, really great restaurant in Gittana itself, which unfortunately for us is closed on Wednesdays (we were there for a Tuesday and Wednesday night). The risotto with mushrooms and apples is one of the most memorable dishes I have ever tasted.

We stayed in the larger La Domus apartment. I found it much more authentic than anything down on the Varenna waterfront. Gitanna is an old, Italian village with tiny cobbled alleys that keep out the heat and open to stunning views of the lake. The apartment fits perfectly in the picture. You feel like you're staying in an 18thC house, but with modern appliances and wi-fi.
The top floor is great for three children, though it could get a bit hot in high summer with many hot nights. Having said that, we were there in August and the air cooled down at night and we didn't need the fan.
Alessandra is a lovely person and very helpful, providing local knowledge at the door or by WhatsApp right throughout our stay.
The beach is a short walk down shaded ancient paths (past a friendly donkey) and there was good food and ice cream there. In the end we preferred it to the beaches in the nearby towns. I advise swimming shoes/sandals because of the stones.
There's a very nice walk leading up from Gitanna to the higher villages, ending at the superb Crott del Meo for lunch.

The town and house were perfect. Far enough away from tourists and tourist traps but close enough to any activity that you wish. I wish we had known about Holidays in Gittana years ago. Besides vacationing here I would have used it as a heavenly, relaxing base for visiting other cities in Italy. The houses are spotlessly clean and very comfortable with everything you need including a washing machine. The owner Allesandra will do anything for you and she is an expert about everything in the area. She also seems to be able to perfectly predict the weather which helps with planning your days. I don't think anyone else in Gittana besides Allesandra speaks English but they are friendly and happy to see you. The train station below in Varenna can easily connect you to everywhere in Italy. I would definitely recommend Holidays in Gittana to anyone visiting Italy for any reason.
