Un istituzione a Varenna

What an experience! Stacy met us in the San Giorgio Plaza in Varenna. On our hectic traveling day, she recognized me and waved us down as we were passing her in our taxi. Stacy and her husband George helped us get our luggage into their home. George explained everything about the house’s amenities, location, and nearby restaurants. The recommended restaurants were fantastic, especially Osteria Quatro Pass. Both of them were amazing! They were so kind in leaving us fresh fruit, wine, two fruit tarts, granola, milk and a bottle of wine. One could not have asked for a better welcoming! The location of the home was perfect and central to everything in Varenna. The beds were very comfortable and each bedroom was quite large. The home was so calm and tranquil with a wonderful veranda with a view of Lake Cuomo. The evenings were so peaceful on the veranda! The home looked like it had been recently renovated. It was beautiful! A plus was being right next to an artist who connected with our family. What a cool experience! Overall, an amazing experience and home!

We loved our stay here. Sonia met us at the apartment and let us in. She explained where everything was and gave us some tips on Lake Como. The apartment is so centrally located it’s wonderful and the views from the window are amazing. There isn’t a balcony but you can still see out well. The bed was large and comfy. Another bonus was the washing machine. Sonia even changed our towels after a couple of days. She also left us fruit, milk yoghurt, tea and coffee and there bathroom supplies as well.

After some initial confusion over the booking, Stacy was reassuring and welcoming. When we arrived in Italy during a rail strike, Sonia, our host, gave us helpful travel advice and met us when we arrived in Varenna. She kept us supplied with cereal, fruit and yoghurt during our stay. The prosecco and apricot tart she also provided were particularly welcome! We booked the whole villa for our visit. It was spacious and comfortable with air conditioning in the bedrooms and a sunny terrace. The villa is very close to the cafes and bars alongside Lake Como but is tucked away from the hustle and bustle. We had a wonderful stay - and even received a discount on the initial price of the villa. We hope to return to Chiave di Volta in the future.

We stayed in the la Terrazza lake view room which has separate entrances to bedroom and private bathroom. Although we had some initial concern about this it was not a problem and hardly ever encountered anyone else in the hallway even though both other rooms were occupied during our three night stay. Varenna is a wonderful place, a true gem of Lake Como with less than a thousand residents. Two nights is enough time in Varenna unless you want to truly take a slow day to relax like the locals.|Casa Stacy is on the piazza which has three old churches, one that rings its bells on the hour and for a couple minutes at 7AM and 7PM. Children and parents are in the piazza all day and into the evening. The piazza has a great restaurant straight across from the Casa, but we would not recommend the adjacent hotel restaurant, particularly the house wine.|Our room was small but facing the lake and piazza with shuttered full opening doors, which was great to let in outside air. There is no AC more TV in the room but this was not a problem for us. The room is very secure and located two floors up from the piazza; the next floor offers a common area with light snacks, breakfast foods, coffee and tea, full kitchen and wine fridge; the top floor above is an open terrace with a view of the lake, mountains, city and piazza that is fabulous. We enjoyed wine and snacks there every evening and the 7PM church bells signaling the end of day...beautiful.|We loved this location with easy access to the lake front, but away from most os the daytime visitors, a 2 minutes walk to small grocery, watching the local community slow down even more on a Sunday with bikers, children playing games, and quiet dinners chatting with other visitors at dinner or lunch in the piazza. A true Italian village experience. |Host Stefano met us when we arrived, communicated before and during our stay, organized the taxi to get to the train station, and was available almost anytime. We recommend using taxi for connection to train station if you are handling bags or even wheeled suitcases...some hills and cobblestone pavements along route...and all taxi drivers charge flat 10 euros and know exactly where Casa Stacy is located.|Only reason we did not rate 5 stars is the room size and stairs. But if you don’t mind that and understand you are renting a room, not a hotel stay, then we recommend enjoying a bit of small and quaint Italy at its best.

We stayed in the waterfront apartment and it was perfect for our visit to Varenna. The view was one of the best of our entire three week Italy trip. “Breakfast” was provided, but be sure to check the food provided - some containers/boxes were half empty, fruit was moldy - seemed as if it was leftover from prior guest. We didn’t eat any of it. All in all, great view, on the waterfront, not too many steps to this location.

Casa Stacy has multiple properties and room types in Varenna. We stayed in the la terrazza lake view room which is a bedroom with double bed and a separate private bathroom which you access through the hallway. The room has a small shared balcony with the adjoining room but we only saw 1 person on there during our 5 day stay. There is no air-conditioning, which wasn't a problem in September but might be an issue in the summer peak.||||The property is located on piazza San Georgio with a lovely view of the lake and the mountains behind that. There is some noise of kids playing and the general hub bub of the town but this drops away by late evening and was never a problem overnight.||||There is a separate community living room upstairs and a roof terrace on the floor above that. The cooking facilities are basic but there's a coffee machine and a wine fridge along with a small selection of food for breakfast. The stairs up to roof terrace in particular are fairly steep and you will need to take care if you have difficulty with steep stairs.||||All in all we had a great time and enjoyed our stay there but the separate bathroom and the steep stairs from the lake view room to the common room are both a minor nuisance.

First - you might want to support local Italian owners, not some American who rents out her unit while living abroad.||||Second - we booked in winter, close to 0 C at night. There is no heat at night in this unit, it's flagrantly missing a utility.||||The host informed us there is nothing she can do, and then she ghosted us (and the support agent) when we brought up some sort of refund.||||There is no accountability if something goes wrong, this is not a hotel. This is just some American woman who gets to decide if no heat in Winter warrants a refund of any amount. Pretty sure she's never even been there in December. It's pretty much the worst type of host you might get unlucky enough to encounter when traveling. Decide if you want to support this type of host first.||||For the unit, the room itself is cheaply decorated and has some nice views through small windows. You can do a lot better in Varenna and from local Italian owners as well.
